Janet and I drove to Ashland and saw an excellent production of Raisin in the Sun. She returned home and I headed south to California. Reggae on the River happens every August on the Eel River near Garberville.Friends who had attended advised me to get a camp spot in beautiful Richardson Grove State Park. Good advice, as the riverbank camping near the stage was a bit hot and noisy. I was lucky to end up camping near some fellow Eugeanians. John, Stacie and their friends welcomed me to their group, and we enjoyed a weekend of music, swimming and walks through the forest. Musical high points were Nasio Fontaine and the Easy Star All Stars who do a reggae version of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. One ROTR might be enough for me, given the distance, the heat, the cost and limited roots reggae music (my favorite) but I'm glad I went and am thankful for some good music and the new friends I made. |
